Facts and Myths About Network Marketing

Quite often people confuse direct sales and the notorious pyramid schemes with network marketing. I want to take a few minutes here and explain the differences so everybody is on the same page and so that you are educated on why network marketing is not something other than what it is.

RETAIL:

This includes all of the stores. Where people go to a store to buy food or items at retail pricing. Yes, even those “discount” stores are retail outlets.

DIIRECT SALES:

Is usually, but not always limited to, sales people like Fuller Brush, Avon, encyclopedia’s, Tuperware, cookware and candle home parties, and the like selling a product or service directly to consumers.

NETWORK MARKETING:

It is a means of marketing that utilizes levels of people in an organization designed to move goods and services from the producer to the consumer. There are commissions and bonuses that are distributed among each level in the organization.

Network marketing companies are more efficient than retail stores because they have a lot of people, independent distributors, all working together. This allows the company to avoid many costly business expenses, and have more money to divide up between those distributors. Network marketing, unlike a retail store, has minimal expenses. Also, unlike a manager in a retail store, as a distributor leading your group, you will be able to make an unlimited amount of money as your organization grows.

In network marketing the people are the winners, up and down the entire organization, and everyone has an equal opportunity to go to the top with their organization. Unlike a pyramid where only the few at the top make all the money. In network marketing, there is plenty of room at the top, all you need is the motivation and desire to get there.

In network marketing you are in business for yourself but you are not by yourself. You will have an upline, and if you were to join my organization I would be your direct upline leader who will see to it that you are trained in how to use the available tools effectively and you would be a part of my organization.

And, I “want” you to be successful. I want you to be massively successful, because if you are a huge success then I will be too. You will also feel the same towards the people you bring into the organizaton.

In network marketing companies you will find at least a retail and a wholesale pricing structure. Some people enroll as a distributor simply to take advantage of the wholesale pricing and buy products for their own personal use with no intention of doing it as a business. Frequently, and I speak through my own personal experience, later this person will decide that they want to get involved and become “active” and will proceed to set up a home-based business because they realize there is demand for the product due to the responses they get from friends and family members saying to them, “how can I get these products?”

Being in business for yourself means you should use the products of the company and you should be on autoship. This is very easy and worthwhile with a company like Young Living because you CAN have a healthy nontoxic home and nontoxic personal care products, but I’ll get more into how you can do that in future posts. Or, if you can’t wait to see how, you can go to my other blog and read the posts by using this link: 30 Ways You Can Poison Yourself Before Breakfast.

PYRAMIDS:

First, they ARE ILLEGAL. They are often confused with network marketing because they “falsely” claim to be multi-level, when in fact they are not at all. One of the main reasons they are illegal is because they “fail” to move a product or service. They may have a poor quality product(s) for show, but their main goal is to sell you the right to be a representative of their company. Since there is little if any product being moved they are basically selling “air”, which means they want you to go out and sell “air” too and get little, if anything, in return. It’s no wonder they’re illegal! They may have multiple levels but marketing they are not!
