I’ve always had an interest in plants, particularly those that are native edibles and those which are used medicinally in alternative health and healing. As I watched the nutritional value of our foods decline and the poor processing of herbal modalities, finding pure products has been an obsession. These declines sent me years ago on a quest to find the purest foods and plant materials available.
There are a few reasons I prefer Young Living essential oils and prefer them over most other plant remedies. One is their efficacy, two is - humans evolved with these plants [my body "recognizes" all of the components and knows how to process and eliminate them].
What drew me to Young Living nearly eight years ago was the purity of their essential oils. Even though I had been using essential oils for twelve years I wasn’t happy with the quality of my supplier - those were the best I could find at the time.
I dreamt of the day when I would find essential oils that I could use in cooking, for flavoring drinks, take internally when I didn’t feel well, and to inhale and apply topically without worrying if I was poisoning myself because of the solvents used during distillation and other toxic forms of adulteration. The other brand of essential oils I had been using could not be used in any of these ways, so I simply dreamt of the day.
Then, a Young Living distributor happened to be a guest speaker at a class I was taking. Since the class was classical Feng Shui, the last thing I had expected to discover were therapeutic-grade essential oils. I sat and listened to the speaker, I knew that she knew what she was talking about. She passed a bottle of lavender essential oil for us to smell. I did a double-take sniff and thought to myself, “I can’t believe it, I think I’ve found what I’ve been waiting for!”
She passed around another bottle, and another. Within minutes I knew that my dreams had suddenly become a reality. I placed a very large order and when my order arrived I threw out all of the inferior essential oils I had been using. I knew it was wasteful, I had a lot of money invested in those oils too - I knew I would never use them again.
I had a landscaping business at the time which meant no time at all to pursue a Young Living business. So for about 8 years I simply used the Young Living essential oils and products, everything in my house was, and still is, Young Living. If for some reason I stopped my Young Living home-based business, I would continue to use the products - the reason why, there aren’t any others out there that are better or more pure.
It wasn’t until two years ago, when I moved to the Pacific Northwest from Pennsylvania, that I decided to do Young Living as a business. Being that I’ve been a business owner and self-employed for 32 years switching from one business to another didn’t phase me. I know what it takes to start a business from scratch, what I need to do to build it, what to expect, and so forth.
I think the coolest part about having essential oils of this quality at my fingertips is the infinite possibilities. I’m serious, if you came into my house right now you would not be able to find a single typical medicine, detergent or household cleaner. The only thing you’d find typical in my medicine cabinet are bandages. Here are just a couple examples of how essential oils have made the quality of my life better… my abscessed tooth experience, and my dogs favorite essential oil.
I’m glad I chose to do Young Living as a business because I’m still maintaining my connection to the plant kingdom, I’m still the owner of my business, make my own schedule, do my business the way I like, and I feel that I’m still pursuing my goal. Which is, on a personal level keeping the chemical products out of my life, and helping others who want to achieve their goal.
One of the other things I like about Young Living is that they don’t have a lot of screwy rules you have to follow. For instance, when you’re on autoship, YOU get to pick and choose what you want, you can even change your autoship items every month. I like this because I don’t end up with a bunch of product that I don’t use much of, or get things I don’t need or want.
I feel that Young Living gives us a lot of freedom. This is important to me because after 32 years of running my own show/businesses… well, I’m pretty independent and like things “my” way. If that freedom wasn’t there, I would still use the products - but I wouldn’t be doing this as a business, that’s for sure.
